Remembering past matches played by the Iron on May 29...

Former and current Iron players born on this day: Ivor Williams (1935), Marc North (1966), Paul Harsley (1978), Aaron Chapman (1990).

The Iron celebrated promotion on this day at Wembley in 1999 following a slender 1-0 victory over Leyton Orient in the Division Three Play-Off Final.

Gareth Sheldon returned to the starting line-up following the suspension of John Eyre for two yellow cards in the semi-final second leg, while Paul Harsley arrived at Wembley celebrating his 21st birthday.

It was the stand-in for Eyre who assisted the opening - and eventually decisive - goal, firing in a cross close to the goal line for Alex Calvo-Garcia to glance home a header in the sixth minute.

The Iron had chances in the first half with Chris Hope and Andy Dawson both going close but after two alterations at half time, the O's sprang to life in the second half.

Nevertheless, the defence and 'keeper Tommy Evans remained resolute and a clean sheet meant a first promotion in sixteen years was confirmed.
