Rob Lewis will be the man in the middle for the Iron's home league clash against Southend United on Saturday.

The Shropshire-based official arrives at the Sands Venue Stadium for his 25th game of the campaign and his 10th in Sky Bet League Two.

His first game of the campaign was Newport County's 2-1 home victory over Barrow on the second weekend of the league season, a game in which he showed five cautions. Meanwhile his last game came on Wednesday night as he oversaw the goalless draw between Grimsby Town and Tranmere Rovers at Blundell Park. He issued four cautions.

The 51-year-old has taken charge of the Iron on 10 occasions in total, most recently in September when he dismissed Matthew Lund early on following a Jamie Ward penalty against Bradford City with United eventually drawing 1-1.

In the 10 previous games refereeing Scunthorpe, he's issued 41 yellow cards and five reds. There have been two games with the most yellow cards (eight) - one in the Championship against Middlesbrough which also included a dismissal and one away at Gillingham, which also saw the hosts awarded three penalties. He was last appointed to an Iron game back in January 2020 for the game away at Crawley, but he came off that game late on and was replaced by Tom Nield.

Lewis is one of the EFL's longest serving officials, refereeing his first League Two match in 2005 between Rochdale and Rushden & Diamonds. Prior to this, he officiated on the Conference and was also an assistant referee on the Premier League.

As an assistant, he's been involved in some top matches, including games in the Champions League, UEFA Cup, Euro Qualifiers and a World Cup Qualifier.

He will be taking charge of a Southend United fixture for the first time since October 2018, but has had the Shrimpers on 10 previous occasions. That last encounter was at the Stadium of Light with the side losing 3-0, while seven of the 10 games have come at Roots Hall. Across those games, he's issued 25 yellow cards and two reds.

In 2019-20, he took charge of 21 games, issuing 77 yellow cards and four reds. So far in this campaign, he's refereed 24 games, showing 66 yellow cards and three reds.

On Saturday, Lewis will be assisted by Barry Gordon and Alistair Nelson, while Darren Drysdale has been appointed as the fourth official.
