Scunthorpe United can confirm that Saturday’s home league encounter against Bristol Rovers has been postponed due to the away side not being able to fulfil the fixture.
Shortly after lunchtime, the away club contacted the Iron amid speculation which emerged from their pre-match press conference this morning. Prior to this no dialogue from the side had been received.
Bristol Rovers informed the EFL that it would be unable to fulfil the fixture at the Sands Venue Stadium with a number of positive COVID cases adding to their absences through injury and suspension.
We wish those affected a swift and safe recovery.
In light of the increased transmission rate of the Omicron variant, the EFL will now review the circumstances surrounding the postponement. In addition it will assist affected Clubs throughout this challenging period to help them mitigate against the risk of infection amongst players and staff, while ensuring their obligations to the EFL regulations are maintained.
