Scunthorpe twice came from behind to see off 10-man Tranmere 4-2 at home.
Former Iron trialist Mustafa Tiryaki put the visitors in front after a mistake by Iron keeper Sam Slocombe before Shane Duffy headed the hosts level.
Tiryaki netted his second with a fine strike from distance only for Bobby Grant to level with a powerful effort.
Chris Dagnall slotted the hosts in front before Jose Baxter saw red for Rovers for a bad challenge and Grant hit a penalty to round off the scoring.
Baxter was sent off for a foul on Iron skipper Sam Togwell.
The hosts' penalty, which Grant netted for his eighth goal of the season, was awarded after Michael O'Connor was brought down in the area by Ian Goodison.
LEAGUE ONE TITLE ALL BUT SEALED

Tranmere's outside play-off hopes disappeared as they sunk to a home defeat against leaders Scunthorpe, for whom this win all but sealed the League One title a week after clinching promotion to the Championship.
Andy Butler set United on their way in the 55th minute with a header from a corner by Kevan Hurst, which was carried over by keeper Gavin Ward.
The Iron secured the win on 70 minutes when Billy Sharp registered his 29th goal of the season after good work from Jermaine Beckford and Cleveland Taylor.
Tranmere went closest through Steve Davies and Paul McLaren.

Scunthorpe booked their place in the northern area final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy with a last-gasp victory over Tranmere.
The game was three minutes into stoppage time when Rovers defender John Johnson slightly deflected a free-kick from Paul Hayes, wearing a mask following a cheekbone injury two-and-a-half weeks earlier, into his own net.
Striker Ben May gave the hosts the lead with a superb header on 26 minutes.
But Tranmere equalised on 54 minutes through Ian Moore, while Antony Kay should have won it for the visitors.

LATE BYRNE HEROICS SEAL PLAY-OFF PLACE

Scunthorpe sealed the final 2008-09 League One play-off place at the expense of Tranmere after captain Cliff Byrne snatched a dramatic late goal.
Tranmere had seemed set for a play-off place when Craig Curran headed home Ian Moore's cross at the far post.
But Rovers were reduced to 10 men when defender Gareth Edds was sent off for a second bookable offence
And Scunthorpe finally struck with just two minutes to go as Byrne headed home a free-kick from Grant McCann to rapturous scenes in front of a packed Doncaster Road terrace.
