Profiling our six new academy scholars

8 June 2020

Academy manager Tony Daws has profiled the six new apprentices inducted into our Under-18s set-up ahead of the 2020-21 season.

We announced those details last week, which can be accessed by clicking here. Here’s Tony’s overview of the players, whose photos can also be seen above…

HARRY LEWIS (top left)
A 5ft 8in left-winger who was born in Scunthorpe, Harry played for Appleby-Frodingham before signing for the Iron at the Under-13 age group. Harry attends St Bede’s School.

JAKE BALME (top middle)
A 5ft 10in goalkeeper, he joined the club in November 2019 after impressing in a short trial period. Towards the end of the 2019-20 season, Jake gained valuable experience playing regularly in the Under-18s games.

OLIVER LOBLEY (top right)
Oliver is 5ft 10 in and capable of playing in numerous positions and has played as a left-back, left centre-back and in left midfield for the youth team. Oliver has made outstanding progress since signing for the club as an Under-15. He has been a regular starter in the Under-18s for the past two seasons.

JACK MOORE-BILLAM (bottom left)
At 5ft 9in, he is a versatile player who is comfortable playing in midfield or attack. He gets forward and scores goals. Jack turned down other clubs to join us this season.

ETHAN YOUNG (bottom centre)
A 6ft 2in left-footed central defender. Ethan has played regularly in the Under-18s towards the end of the 2019-20 season and has gained valuable experience.

BEN FRANKLIN (bottom right)
A 5ft 9in central midfield player, he joined the club this season after impressing in trials. Ben gained experience playing in the Under-18s towards the end of the season.
