Under-23s preview: Huddersfield Town (H)

30 December 2020

The Iron's Under-23s play second their Central League game of the season this Wednesday with a home clash against Huddersfield Town (12.30pm kick-off).

Please note, in line with the current EFL COVID-19 guidelines, no spectators are permitted at these games.

SCENE-SETTER

It's the second game of the season for the Iron's Under-23s side, with the match against the Terriers the reverse fixure from the fixture that has been played.

United won that game at Canalside 4-0 with Andy Dales, Olufela Olomola, Devarn Green and Kenan Dünnwald-Turan all netting.

Wednesday's game is the second of eight matches played in the Central League during what will be a reduced season due to the COVID-19 situation, and these fixtures against the Terriers, Walsall, Grimsby Town and Salford City are scheduled to come thick and fast over the next couple of months. Jon Worthington brings his Under-19s side to North Lincolnshire in good form as they top Group C with four wins from their five games having beaten Walsall 3-2 and 4-2, respectively, while also seeing off Salford City (3-1) and Grimsby Town (6-3). The Iron, meanwhile, are second on goal difference with the Ammies and the Mariners both with three points to their name. Walsall are bottom with no wins from four games.

TEAM NEWS

The game will be used as an opportunity to get important game time into players who have been on the fringes of the first team in recent weeks, as well as some returning from injury.

Harry Jessop and Andy Dales could both get gametime following recent injuries, with the second part of Dales' loan to Altrincham scuppered due to that lay-off. The likes of Adam Kelsey, Lewis Butroid, Tom Pugh and George Hornshaw may also appear.

First year professionals Tom Collins and Raynner Silva could also be involved while Charlie Barks, currently out on loan at Frickley Athletic, could still have a part to play in the game with the side not in action this midweek. Fin Shrimpton is sidelined with an ankle injury.

Meanwhile, the side may be supplemented with some of the Iron's Under-18 players, with the second year scholars such as Harry Baker, Joey Dawson and Dan Gallimore all likely to be amongst the squad.
