JIC Feature Fan: Ollie Chedzoy

24 April 2020

We look back through our featured Junior Iron Club members this season, with each selected participant answering questions for the matchday programme before getting an opportunity to interview an Iron player.

Ollie was our eighth member to get the chance to take part, with the then-eight-year-old featured in the new-look Junior Iron Mini Mag for our younger supporters. He also got the opportunity to interview Alex Gilliead, asking him his choice of questions.

This interview was featured in our programme when we faced Exeter City back in October.

Here's his interview, plus Alex Gilliead's answers...

Age? Eight

What's been the best part of being a JIC member? The best thing about being part of the Junior Iron Club was last season when I won the mascot package for the game against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light and also being able to interview Alex Gilliead.

How long have you been supporting the Iron? I have supported the Iron for three years.

Tell us about your first game. My first game was against Port Vale at home in April 2016 when Scunthorpe won 1-0 and Paddy Madden scored the winner.

Who is your favourite Scunthorpe United player of all time? Duane Holmes

Who is your favourite current Scunthorpe United player? Ryan Colclough

Tell us your favourite parts of a matchday… Sitting with my friends and family and high-fiving the players when they come out of the tunnel.

Who do you come to games with? I come to games with my mum, dad, sister, cousin and friends. There are 12 of us that all sit together.

Do you play football and if so, who for and what position do you play? I play for Appleby-Frodingham Under-9s and I play either left-back or right-back.

Which game are you most looking forward to this season and why? I am looking forward to Scunny playing Grimsby Town on December 21st. My mum doesn’t want me to go because she thinks there will be lots of fighting!

Ollie interviews Alex Gilliead…

If you were playing FIFA 20, which team would you be and why? I’m not really a big fan of FIFA so I wouldn’t be on it, but if I was to play I would pick Manchester City or Liverpool just because they have fast players!

How do you like spending your spare time when you’re not playing or training? I’ve recently got a puppy, so he’s keeping me occupied when I’m out of football.

What career would you have liked to gone into if you hadn’t made it as a professional footballer? I’m not sue. I would have gone to college and tried to go to university and then I would have seen where that took me.

What is your training schedule like? Do you practise every day? We train Monday to Friday, but have Wednesday’s off, preparing for a game on the Saturday. That can alter depending on when we have games though, including midweek ones.

Who is the sports icon that has influenced you the most? I think if it’s a footballer I admire, it would be Lionel Messi, but I’m not sure who has influenced me the most.

What is the dressing room morale like before the game? It’s good! Either me or Harrison put the music on and it’s relaxed. Everyone just goes about their own business.
