Rob Lewis to referee Bradford City home clash

25 September 2019

Rob Lewis will be the man in the middle for the Iron's home league clash against Bradford City on Saturday.

The Shropshire-based official arrives at the Sands Venue Stadium for his eighth game of the campaign and his second in Sky Bet League Two.

His first game of the campaign was Fleetwood Town's 3-1 away victory over Peterborough United on the opening day of the season, a game in which he showed seven cautions. Meanwhile his last game in the middle came two weekends ago when he oversaw Oxford United's 3-0 home win over Tranmere Rovers. He issued four yellow cards in that game.

The 50-year-old has taken charge of the Iron on nine occasions in total, most recently in October 2018 when the side lost 2-0 to Peterborough United. On that night, he issued three cautions.

The encounter at the Sands Venue Stadium will be his seventh visit to the stadium with the whistle. In the nine games refereeing Scunthorpe, he's issued 36 yellow cards and four reds.

Meanwhile, he's refereed Bradford City on nine occasions the most recent in December 2018 when he showed six yellow cards in a 3-3 draw away at Plymouth Argyle. In total, across the nine games, he's shown 38 yellow cards and two reds.

Lewis is one of the EFL's longest serving officials, refereeing his first League Two match in 2005 between Rochdale and Rushden & Diamonds. Prior to this, he officiated on the Conference and was also an assistant referee on the Premier League.

As an assistant, he's been involved in some top matches, including games in the Champions League, UEFA Cup, Euro Qualifiers and a World Cup Qualifier.

In 2018-19, he took charge of 21 games, issuing 75 yellow cards and four reds. So far in this campaign, he's refereed seven games, showing 30 yellow cards and two reds.

On Saturday, Lewis will be assisted by Mark Cunliffe and Ian Smedley, while Alix Pashley has been appointed as the fourth official.
