The Iron chairman, together with his fellow directors, wife Karin and son Chris, CEO Jim Rodwell and club secretary Adam Grice met up with SULSESC members in the Birkbeck Arms, a pub close to Orient’s ground, for a lunchtime Q&A.
Around 50 SULSESC members were in attendance and listened intently as Peter Swann talked about his life in football, firstly as a player, then as chairman of Gainsborough Trinity, and then his years at the Scunthorpe United helm.
He then answered questions from the floor in what proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable and enlightening pre-match get-together.
London Supporters’ Club chairman Neil Wright said: “It’s the first time SULSESC have been able to host anything like this.
“In 1997, on our tenth anniversary, I remember Brian Laws brought the team to the pub after a game at Barnet but we’ve never been able to put on a full scale fans’ forum before, largely because of the geographical logistics involved in getting everyone to London.
“We’d really like to thank Peter, Karin, Chris, Jim and Adam for giving up their time on the Saturday lunchtime to come and meet with us.
“Peter was an excellent guest and answered all of the questions very openly and honestly.
“I really hope that we’re able to arrange another forum some time next season.”
Chairman Peter Swann commented, “It was good to spend some time with our south eastern based supporters ahead of the Orient game. Neil Wright and Andy Skeels do a fantastic job with the supporters’ group. They’ve been very supportive of the club through sponsorship and organising tickets and travel despite living away from Scunthorpe.
“Thank you to all members of SULSESC for their continued support from all the directors of Scunthorpe United Football Club.”
