Players to return for pre-season training tomorrow

25 June 2019

The Iron players will be back in the building on Wednesday, June 26th as preparations get underway for the 2019-20 season.

Just short of a week since the fixtures for the new campaign were released, it is full steam ahead for Paul Hurst and his team as intense pre-season work gets underway.

The coaching staff returned to the club on Monday in preparation for the players returning to Glanford Park on the Wednesday. The side will then have six weeks to prepare for the big kick-off in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday, August 3rd.

United will kick off their pre-season friendlies on Friday, July 5th in Spain when they face Dundee at the end of the six-day tour. They'll then return to England and compete in games against Guiseley (July 13th), Leicester City (July 16th), West Bromwich Albion (July 20th), Alfreton Town (July 23rd) and Lincoln City (July 27th).

Manager Paul Hurst is eager to get his side in the building and get his pre-season programme underway: "We’ll have a meeting with the players and then, very quickly, the hard work will commence. We’ll work each day ahead of the trip to La Manga, and there will be very hard intense work for the players over the following weeks.

“I’m a big believer that the amount of days you put in on the training ground in pre-season will benefit you in the long run. Hopefully we can manage that and start building a good base of fitness that will hopefully see us through a tough and gruelling campaign.
