Report: Hull City U18s 2-4 Iron U18s

23 July 2019

Harry Jessop, Levi Gallimore, Dan Gallimore and Raynner Silva all scored in the first-half as United’s Under-18s emerged 4-2 victors at Hull City in their latest pre-season friendly in the scorching heat on Tuesday morning.

“It was an excellent performance from all of the players in very hot conditions,” said academy manager Tony Daws. The first-half started with a pass played down the left-hand side. Jessop ran on to it and struck a shot but the Hull goalkeeper saved.

A minute later, a Hull forward found himself in behind the Iron defence but Baker slid inside the box to intervene, with the ball falling to a Hull man but Collins palmed away brilliantly. The rebound was then put wide.

In the sixth minute, the Iron won a penalty as Cameron Wilson was upended inside the area, and Jessop converted to the ‘keeper’s right.

With 13 minutes gone, Jessop picked the ball up 25 yards from goal, but his powerful low strike was parried by the Hull ‘keeper, and Shrimpton couldn’t quite make the rebound.

Three minutes after, Jessop slid the ball into Chadli inside the box on the left hand side, his shot was blocked for a corner, which was cleared by the Hull defence.

Levi Gallimore picked the ball up inside the box at around the 20-minute mark, but his strike was saved by the Hull ‘keeper. Moments later, Finley Shrimpton’s low strike to the ‘keeper’s right was saved again.

Soon after, Cameron Wilson played a one-two with Levi Gallimore on the right wing, and the former whipped a dangerous ball across the face of goal, but no one in an Iron shirt could connect.

Scunthorpe scored their second just a minute later as Levi Gallimore latched onto a loose ball in the Hull half, he drove forward and slotted the ball into the bottom right corner.

After half an hour, Wilson chased down an overhit cross. His ball into the box was met by Levi Gallimore, whose first time effort went over the crossbar.

In the 36th minute, a swift Iron counter-attack saw Shrimpton pick the ball up from deep. He carried it before laying off to Jessop, who beat two men inside the box before laying off to Luca Chadli, whose low effort was saved.

Tom Collins was soon drawn into a save as a Hull forward was slipped in on the left side of the area, but the Iron shotstopper instinctively saved the resulting strike.

Then, Harry Baker overlapped Levi Gallimore, and his cross headed goalbound but cannoned off the crossbar out of play.

Two minutes before the half-time break, Jessop hits a powerful strike from 20 yards out, but the Hull ‘keeper saved for a corner.

Scunthorpe scored their third goal on 44 minutes as Chadli picked the ball up on the right wing, flicked it over his man, and teed up Dan Gallimore, who fires into the far corner.

Silva then added a composed fourth just before half-time as he was slipped in on the right before confidently slotting across goal and beyond the diving ‘keeper.
The hosts pulled a goal back in the 50th minute when Collins parried a first effort well, but a Hull forward tapped in the rebound.

United soon searched for a fourth as Jessop found Chadli in acres of space down the left hand side. He drove forward, and cut inside beating a Hull defender, before having his shot blocked.

On the hour mark, Patrick Virgo won a 50-50 in the Hull half and, after driving forward, saw his shot saved by the goalkeeper.

Three minutes later, Silva picked the ball up on the edge of the box from the left side, but his low strike went wide of the right post.

On 76 minutes, a ball forward was chased by Levi Gallimore. He did well to beat his man and earn the Iron a free-kick near the byline. From the resulting dead ball, Chadli found Levi Gallimore at the back post, who headed narrowly over.

Hull pulled another back with ten minutes left as a pass was switched to the left-hand side and was then fired into the bottom right corner by the Hull forward.

There were more chances as the clock ticked down in the final ten minutes. A corner came in from Shrimpton, from the left, and was met by the head of Oliver Kemp, but he couldn’t keep his effort down.

Collins made a sublime save in the 87th minute, from point blank range, and then pulled off another solid piece of goalkeeper as he got down to gather a low cross.

Jessop tried to add his second goal in the 89th minute, as he picked the ball up from 25 yards and fired a left-footed effort goalbound. His powerful strike was tipped away for a corner, which was cleared by Hull.

Chadli then found Silva down the left-hand side with a neat throughball, but the latter’s strike flew wide of the goalkeeper’s left post.

That proved the last action of the game as United ran out 4-2 winners.

Team: Collins, Baker, Lobley, D Gallimore, Barks (Kemp, 58), Shrimpton, Jessop (Wilkinson, 58), L Gallimore, Wilson (Virgo, 45, Jessop, 82), Chadli, Silva.
