Lee Swabey to referee Gillingham away clash

14 February 2019

Lee Swabey will be the man in the middle for the Iron's away league clash against Gillingham.

The Devon-based official will travel to MEMS Priestfield Stadium for his 20th game of the campaign and his seventh in Sky Bet League One.

His first game of the campaign was Lincoln City's slender 1-0 away win at Northampton Town on the opening day of the campaign in which he showed two yellow cards. Meanwhile, his latest encounter came three weeks ago in League Two when he issued three cautions in Swindon Town's 1-0 home defeat to Crawley Town.

He's taken charge of the Iron on just one previous occasion and it came in this exact fixture over three years ago. The Iron took the lead through a great strike from Scott Laird before Brennan Dickenson restored parity. Despite skipper and former Iron player Josh Wright being sent off shortly after, the hosts won the encounter with a last minute Harry Lennon strike. Along with the red card, Swabey showed three yellows on the night.

Meanwhile, he's refereed Gillingham on five occasions - their most recent being a 4-2 home defeat against Peterborough United back in September. He showed seven yellow cards on the day. In total, in the five games, he's showed 25 yellows and two reds - both dismissals going to Gillingham players.

In 2017-18, he took charge of 18 games, issuing 57 yellow cards and one red. So far in this campaign, he has officiated in 19 encounters, showing 61 yellows and two reds.

On Saturday, Swabey will be assisted by Bhupinder Gill and Adrian Tranter, while Paul Lister has been appointed as the fourth official.
