Ben El-Mhanni ready to knuckle down and impress

26 October 2018

The Iron’s latest recruit Yasin Ben El-Mhanni is eager to “knuckle down” and impress after penning a deal to the end of the season.

The former Newcastle United forward was rewarded with a contract after a successful trial and feels signing for the club was the right opportunity for him to take with both hands.

“I’m over the moon and I’m absolutely buzzing to sign here,” he told iFollow Iron.

“I just want to get started, train well and play some games. I’ve been training at a few places and I’ve been training with Brentford during pre-season.

“This opportunity came up and I thought it was the right opportunity for me, so I came here to train. I think I’ve impressed the manager enough to get a deal here. Now it’s time to knuckle down.”

The 22-year-old has been training with the club in recent weeks and spoke of his style of play, working with the squad and the manager’s message to him.

“It was a good amount of time to show what I can do and the sessions I’ve been here for have been really good as well,” he continued.

“The team are sound, it’s a good group of lads and I get along with all of them, so it’s good. It’s always difficult when you’re without a club, but you’ve got to stay mentally strong and I’ve been able to do that. Now that I’ve been provided my opportunity here, I just want to knuckle down and do the right things.

“The manager has told me to be patient and when my chance arrives do what I have to do and that is perform. I’d say I’m a tricky player. I like to beat players, I like to play around with one or two-touch passes.

“I want to win games. I’m competitive and I want to win.”
