Horsfield and Daws react to latest acquisition

18 July 2018

New addition James Horsfield is looking to make a big impact at Glanford Park, as he seeks to relaunch his career in England.

The former Manchester City player signed from Dutch top-flight club NAC Breda on Tuesday, and has spent the last three days with his new team-mates on their pre-season training camp in Austria.

Horsfield played 45 minutes of the pre-season friendly at Winterton Rangers in early July and impressed during a spell training with the club.

Also capable of playing at full-back, the 22-year-old adds adaptability to the squad but manager Nick Daws says he’s been brought in primarily as a midfielder.

The boss told iFollow Iron: “He’s capable on the ball, has decent technical ability, is willing to put his foot in and will be a good addition to the group.

“He’s young, hungry, down to earth, grounded and wants to do well for Scunthorpe United. He wants to relaunch his career in England.

“He’s spent the last couple of years at a really high level in the Eredivisie after getting promoted the previous season.”

Talking about settling in, Horsfield added: “I’ve enjoyed it, I joined the lads on Sunday and we’ve been training hard the last couple of days. I’m very happy to join the squad and can’t wait to get going now.

“I was at Manchester City from being really young, at the age of seven, and progressed through the academy. I signed professional there and went out on loan to NAC Breda, before joining them permamently. They’re a great club but it was time to move on and I’m happy to be here now.

“My target is to play as much football as possible and help Scunthorpe get promoted to the Championship.”
