First-half goals from Lee Novak and Duane Holmes earned Scunthorpe a comfortable home victory over Portsmouth.
After a bright start, Novak had already been denied by the woodwork when the former Charlton striker stroked a shot into the far corner after being teed up nicely by Jordan Clarke.
Pompey should have levelled after half-an-hour, but giant striker Oliver Hawkins headed wide from an inviting ball into the middle by Jamal Lowe.
It was a miss the visitors were made to pay for three minutes later, when Holmes reacted quickest to a high ball on the edge of edge by volleying in.
From that point on the Iron more or less went through the motions, staying solid and allowing Portsmouth plenty of possession outside of their penalty area.
A couple of long-range efforts, each of which was off-target, was the closest the visitors came to a consolation, as Scunthorpe eased to victory and a fifth clean sheet in six league matches.

David Syers scored the first hat-trick of his career as promotion-chasing Scunthorpe thrashed Portsmouth 5-1.
Midfielder Syers struck early with a deflected shot and Gary McSheffrey's superb backheel set up Sam Winnall for his 17th of the season.
Paddy Madden set up Syers for his second and then tapped in his first for the club just after the break.
Syers wrapped things up from Hakeeb Adelakun's pass before debutant Michael Drennan headed a Pompey consolation.

Loan signing David Syers scored his first two goals for Scunthorpe United, caretaker-managed by Russ Wilcox, who sent Portsmouth crashing to a fourth successive defeat.
Tom Craddock headed the home side in front from a Ricky Holmes cross.
But Pompey's lead lasted only four minutes, with Syers equalising at the far post after Andy Dawson's corner found its way through the six-yard box.
He later grabbed the winner after keeper Trevor Carson spilled Sam Winnall's left-foot shot into his path.
