Andy Woolmer to referee Doncaster Rovers away clash

13 December 2018

Andy Woolmer will be the man in the middle for the Iron's away league clash against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

The Northamptonshire-based official will travel to the Keepmoat Stadium for his 11th game of the campaign and fifth in Sky Bet League One. The current campaign is Woolmer's 15th in the EFL.

Woolmer is a Select Group 2 match official, meaning he is a professional referee who generally operates in the Championship. Despite this, an injury in January 2017 put him out for the remainder of the 2016-17 campaign before he made a comeback in September 2017 in the bottom two tiers. So far this season, he's taken charge of three Championship encounters, all of which in the last month.

His first game of the campaign was a League Two affair between Notts County and Crewe Alexandra which the hosts won 2-1. On that occasion, he issued just one yellow card.

His most recent encounter came last Saturday when he took charge of Brentford's 3-2 home defeat against Swansea City. He issued three yellow cards at Griffin Park.

He's taken charge of Scunthorpe matches on no fewer than 18 previous occasions, ten of those coming at Glanford Park. He hasn't, however, refereed the Iron for over four years when he was in North Lincolnshire for the visit of Fleetwood Town. Woolmer also oversaw five of the club's Championship fixtures. In total, while refereeing United, he's shown 63 yellow cards and two reds in the 18 games.

Woolmer has taken charge of 14 Doncaster Rovers games over the last 14 years. The most recent was back in January when Rochdale edged a 1-0 win at the Keepmoat Stadium. In the 14 games, he's shown 40 yellow cards and no reds.

In 2017-18, he took charge of 23 games, issuing 61 yellow cards and two reds. So far in this campaign, he has officiated in 10 encounters, showing 31 yellows and three red cards.

On Saturday, he will be assisted by Jonathan Hunt and Matthew McGrath, while Simeon Lucas has been appointed as the fourth official.
