The County Durham-based 38-year-old has just commenced his tenth campaign as an EFL referee and will once again be predominantly be refereeing in the Championship as a Select Group 2 match official.
He last took charge of the Iron in 2015-16 when he oversaw the goalless draw at the Banks's Stadium against Walsall, while prior to that he refereed the 4-2 away victory at Oldham Athletic in October 2015.
Eltringham has refereed Doncaster Rovers on eight occasions, three of which Port Vale fixtures, showing just 15 yellow cards and one red in those games. Similarly, in eight Scunthorpe games in charge, he has shown 11 yellow cards and one red.
The local derby will be his second game of the campaign after taking charge of Bolton Wanderers' opening day win at West Bromwich Albion where he showed just one yellow card.
He will be assisted by James Mainwaring and Nick Greenhalgh, while Peter Wright has been appointed as the fourth official.
