Scotter Colts U9s enjoy tour and flag bearing experience

30 April 2018

Local junior football side Scotter Colts U9s enjoyed a behind-the-scenes pre-match experience ahead of Saturday's 1-0 victory over Walsall.

The team, who play in the Caparo League U9 Premier Division, took advantage of a group booking package for the day.

Eleven players from the side, along with the two coaches, were able to gain access to the otherwise restricted areas of the stadium.

The 45-minute long tour saw the group visit the playing staff areas of the stadium. Beginning with the after match press room, the junior side were also allowed access into the boot room, where they picked their favourite designs, before meeting the players who wear them.

The final stop was to the home dressing room with kick-off against the Saddlers less than two hours away. The players took time pose for photographs and to sign autographs in that time before the tour came to an end.

Further to that, the side were able to be a part of the pre-match build-up, flag bearing both sets of teams onto the pitch prior to kick-off before witnessing Ryan Yates’ late diving header which saw the Iron claim all three points.

We now have no availability remaining for flag bearing in the 2017-18 campaign. If you'd like to get your local grassroots side involved and register your interest for 2018-19, please email james.moody@scunthorpe-united.co.uk.

Following the visit, the team's manager Chris Sumpter said: “The boys thoroughly enjoyed their experience of being flag bearers, which was a great way to cap a good season. We thank everyone at the Iron for being so welcoming.”
