Wallace: We were not good enough

30 September 2017

Defender Murray Wallace believes the Iron were not at their best on Saturday, as they suffered a 2-0 defeat against Shrewsbury Town.

The Scotsman is now hoping United can bounce back with wins in their next couple of games, versus Grimsby Town in the Checkatrade Trophy and Wigan Athletic in the league.

He discussed the match against Shrewsbury with iFollow Iron after the final whistle.

ON THE 2-0 DEFEAT…
MW: I didn’t think we were good enough on the day, from back to front. The quality just wasn’t there for us, neither was our decision-making, patience and we were trying to force things. We didn’t have the right quality to break them down.

ON THE CHANCES HIS SIDE HAD...
MW: I think we’ve got the players on the pitch for the creativity, it’s just our decision making in areas. Maybe we’ve got to be more aware of what is going on the pitch when we receive the ball, but we’ve definitely got the players and the creativity, it’s just the decision-making in the final third.

ON SHREWSBURY TOWN…
MW: There are a good side. They’re obviously riding high with confidence, unbeaten and top of the league, but I definitely thought they were there for the taking, with the way we started the game. I thought we were on top and then maybe their goal came against the run of play. We just started to chase the game and try to force things.

ON CONCEDING TWO GOALS…
MW: We don’t want to concede any goals, never mind two. I think the manner of the goal wasn’t good enough, one from a set-piece where we have looked so solid. That’s certainly frustrating. We were high in confidence, they were high in confidence, they’ve taken a goal and then we’ve ended up chasing the game. I suppose we were feeling like we needed to get back into it straight away and maybe that was our undoing.

ON THE NEXT COUPLE OF GAMES…
MW: Of course I want to bounce back. With a result like this, you just want to go into the next game and get a win, so hopefully we can do that.
