It was United’s sixth clean sheet of the season and central defender Murray Wallace gave his assessment of the game in an interview with iFollow Iron.

The Scot provided his opinion on Lewis Butroid’s first league appearance, the team’s confidence levels and the quality around the squad.

ON THE PORTSMOUTH GAME…
MW: I thought it was a good team performance. We started the game well and we’ve been clinical with our chances. After we went two goals ahead we became quite comfortable and might have taken the foot off the pedal slightly. However, we stayed concentrated and saw the game out well.

ON THE GOALS…
MW: I got a view of Duane’s (Holmes) goal. I think that he said that it hit his shin and his ankle but both goals today were good finishes in my opinion.

ON THE SCORELINE...
MW: I think that it gave some confidence to the attacking players because they have been creating chances. I thought that we were really clinical today so hopefully that will give them more confidence to take on some more shots and put some more balls in.

ON THE CLEAN SHEETS…
MW: It’s massive for us and it’s not just about the back four and the ‘keeper. It’s the whole team, as everyone including Paddy (Madden), Lee Novak, Hopps (Tom Hopper) and Kev (Kevin van Veen) have been working really hard from the front. I think that it’s full credit to the team and the way that they have been working to keep these clean sheets.

"They’re all eager to work really hard and it’s brilliant when you have teammates like that because you can really rely on them and trust for them to have your back."

ON HIS TEAMMATES…
MW: There haven’t been that many new faces that have come in this year but we have a really good bunch here. They’re all eager to work really hard and it’s brilliant when you have teammates like that because you can really rely on them and trust for them to have your back.

ON THE SAVES OF MATT GILKS…
MW: It’s not just his saves that help. He’s always communicating and organising us, which is probably even more important. When the opposition do get a chance, which we do try and keep to a minimum, he always pulls off a great save and helps us out.

ON THE LEAGUE POSITION…
MW: We just look at the next game that we have and we try not to look at the table. We try and put in the performances that we have been doing this season and if we keep doing that then we should be okay.

ON THE QUICK SUCCESSION OF THE FIXTURES…
MW: To be honest that is what we all prefer. If you go into a Tuesday game off the back of a bad result then you want to go into it to correct things. Also, if you go into it after a win then you want to keep that momentum going. I would much rather have the games in quick succession.

ON LEWIS BUTROID’S FIRST LEAGUE START…
MW: I thought he was brilliant and showed real maturity. We train and play with him so we know what he is about. He is a great player and I am delighted that he has got his chance. He performed brilliantly today.
