3-0 up and cruising, the Iron conceded two goals in the last three minutes to surrender their place at the summit of the division.
Jack Brownsword converted a penalty in injury time of the first half before Jack Marriott and Jack Haigh making it 3-0 to the Iron, with Ronnie Waldock assisting both second half strikes.
However, with minutes remaining both Linaker and Smith netted to set up a slightly edgy finish. It also meant that Bury topped the league on goal difference with Scunthorpe originally set to obtain first position.
