With the 2016/17 season now over, plans to dig up and relay a new top layer to the pitch commenced on Monday morning.

With just under two months to prepare the surface until it will be required for pre-season, there has been no delay from the ground staff and Fineturf as they ready the main pitch at Glanford Park and also the training pitch.

Last week, the Grantham-based sports pitch construction and maintenance contractors were at the club installing primary drainage and back-filling the drainage trenches on the training ground.

The top three inches of turf will be removed on the main pitch, with new seeds planted beneath the grass amongst the recently replenished soil after a couple of days of adverse weather towards the end of last week.

The renovation comes following a number of successful pitch hires at Glanford Park, which saw the club host the Sunday League Challenge Cup Final and Jack Kalson Junior Cup Finals, amongst others, and the conclusion of the Iron's campaign in Sky Bet League One.

With the build up to the 2017/18 campaign just around the corner, all systems are go to ensure a quality playing surface for the foreseeable future.
