Ojo: A dream come true

19 July 2017

New arrival Funso Ojo is ambitious about what he can achieve during his time with Scunthorpe United.

Speaking to iFollow Iron immediately after penning a three-year deal to become our fourth signing of the summer, the 25-year-old Belgian explained how the move came about.

He also mentioned how a current United star played a part in helping seal the move.

FO: The head of recruitment Lee Turnbull has been a fan of me for a couple of years now and now was the time to work together. James Rodwell (the Iron’s chief executive officer) called me and asked if I wanted to come over. I then spoke to the manager and really liked the project, and the way he sees football, so that’s how it happened. I’m a Belgian player who has played in Holland and I really wanted to play in England. Scunthorpe have given me the opportunity to play there, so it’s a dream come true to play in England.

FO: I’m a midfielder who likes to play technical football, but I can work as well. I like to mix those two types of play. I enjoy moving the ball around but when I don’t have it I’m a worker and will fight to get it back.

FO: I’ve known Kevin since I was 12/13 years-old. We played one season together at PSV Eindhoven and then got separated, and went on a different path. Last year I saw him and he told me good things about England and Scunthorpe, and we started texting about two weeks ago. He was asking me every day if I was coming over! I said I needed time to think about it. Now we’re back together, I’m looking forward to playing with him.

FO: There’s only one target for me, and I want to go up to the Championship. That’s what the coach told me and I have the same way of thinking. I really want to play in the Championship with Scunthorpe, and we’ll work hard together on that.
