📹 iFollow: Graham Alexander previews final pre-season game against Luton Town

28 July 2017

He previewed the encounter against one of his former clubs by speaking to iFollow Iron ahead of the game.

ON THE TEST AHEAD...

GA: After Wednesday night we are looking for a step up again, if we can, against another good team. I was delighted with how the players played and went about it (the game against Sunderland). We will have to do that again. We want to put on a good performance and make sure that we are building up nicely for the kick-off next week.

It's a perfect test for us in preparation - away from home, a bit of travelling, so we're looking forward to the game.

ON TRAINING AHEAD OF THE GAME...

GA: The players have trained well since Wednesday's game and they're ready for the game. We need to take on board all the training we've done in the last few weeks and look for an improvement on the physical side of it as we build towards the start of the season.

ON LUTON TOWN AND MANAGER NATHAN JONES...

GA: The quality they've got there is very good. Nathan (Jones) and myself joined Luton Town as players. He's done a really good job there and unfortunately, similar to us, they missed out on the play-offs last season. They'll be a good team and they'll play a certain way that will cause us problems. We've got to make sure we do the same for them.

"The target is to have as many players available for selection next week ahead of the Wimbledon game."

ON THE PLAYERS GAINING MINUTES...

GA: We got a good few players through 90 minutes on Wednesday and we'll be looking to do the same against Luton - hopefully for the ones who didn't the other day. We've still got next week to build them up for the game as well. The 90-95 minutes is an extension to training and is different from the norm, so we will try to look after as many players as possible. The target is to have as many players available for selection next week ahead of the Wimbledon game.

ON LEWIS BUTROID, SAM MANTOM AND LUKE WILLIAMS...

GA: Sam Mantom, Luke Williams and Lewis Butroid will all miss the game. They've all had their respective issues over the last couple of weeks, but we're hoping that Luke and Lewis will train on Monday. Sam shouldn't be too long after that either. If we could have all three of those available towards the end of next week, I think it will make us a better squad.
