IT'S A GREAT SIDE, AND I CAN'T WAIT TO GET STARTED

12 January 2017

Ivan Toney says he “can’t wait to get started”, following his loan move to the Iron until the end of the campaign.

The loan arrival from Newcastle has already got a taste of life at Glanford Park, after partaking in his first Scunthorpe training session earlier on Thursday.

The 20-year-old explained that everyone at the club has already made him feel very welcome, and states he now wants to repay them with his performances.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD about his move, Toney said: “It’s a great side, and I can’t wait to get started.

“They’re a great bunch of lads, they’ve been so kind to me on my first day here, so I just can’t wait to get going and help them get promotion.

“Training was intense with a high tempo, which I liked.

“Having enjoyable sessions is the main thing. The lads looked like they’ve been enjoying training before, so it was a joy to be a part of it.”

The forward already has seven strikes to his name after spending the first half of the season at Shrewsbury Town.

However, he insists he should hopefully have a lot of joy in front of goal, given the attacking nature of the Iron squad.

“I want to kick on now and get goals here,” he stated.

“As a striker you want loads of chances and loads of crosses to get your tally up.

“They’ve (Scunthorpe) been scoring a lot of goals, and hopefully I can now get among them and get on the end of the crosses.”

Saturday’s clash at Northampton Town will, if he's involved, see Toney return to the club where he began his career.

However, he was quick to point out that his entire focus is now on helping the Iron achieve their short and long-term aspirations.

“It’s a nice fixture to go back to where I started my career,” he explained.

“I’m obviously at Scunthorpe now, so the main concentration is getting the win and scoring goals.

“Hopefully we can get the job done at the weekend and go from there.”
