BIG MATCH PREVIEW: IRON v PETERBOROUGH UNITED

1 January 2017

The Iron kick off 2017 on home turf, as they take on Peterborough United at Glanford Park.

Graham Alexander’s side will be seeking a response to their New Year’s Eve loss to Bolton Wanderers.

Monday’s visitors will also want to get back to winning ways, after sharing the spoils with Coventry City on Saturday.

Midfielder Sam Mantom sustained a gash to the nose after a clash with Bolton defender Mark Beevers on Saturday, and he’ll be assessed ahead of the game.

Otherwise, Alexander will have a similar squad to select from.

United were 2-0 victors in the reverse fixture at the ABAX Stadium earlier on in the campaign.

Kevin van Veen put the away side ahead in the opening period with a superbly taken header, after an equally terrific cross from skipper Stephen Dawson.

Dawson would later have to be withdrawn due to injury, but the Iron’s fighting spirit was excellent, and they sealed the game through Neal Bishop, who bundled the ball over the line in the later moments of the second half.
