EVERYONE HAS A LOT TO PLAY FOR STILL

10 February 2017

United shotstopper Luke Daniels states it’s important to get back to winning ways when Shrewsbury Town visit Glanford Park on Saturday.

Paul Hurst’s men have hit a real purple patch of form recently to win three out of their last five matches.

It's a run Daniels says will mean he and his team-mates have plenty of work to do in order to secure the points.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Daniels said: “They (Shrewsbury Town) are fighting. At this stage of the season there are no easy games.

“Whether you’re fighting for the top of the league or battling to stay in the league, teams have got a lot to play for still.

“They’re heading in the right direction, and they’ll want to continue that coming here.

“We’ve got to be wary of that, make sure we put Saturday behind us and get back to how we perform well.”

Last weekend’s loss against Southend United was incredibly frustrating, Daniels explained.

But he insisted it’s only enhanced the drive to get matters back on track.

“It was of course a disappointing performance,” he stated.

“We’re under no illusions that it wasn’t good enough. But, if you look, it’s probably one of a handful of games where we’ve performed like that this season.

“It’s a case of understanding that it wasn’t good enough, knowing we’ve got to do better and trying to put it right on Saturday.

“We don’t go into games wanting to perform like that. However, at the end of the day, we’re in the position we are because we have done well so far this season.

“If you look at the responses after defeats, they generally have been very good, and that’s something we’re going to have to do again.

“It’s another tough game coming up on Saturday, but it’s an opportunity to put it right.”

Should the 29-year-old feature in both the clash with the Shrews and Tuesday’s encounter at home to Walsall, Daniels will move onto 100 Iron appearances.

The ‘keeper acknowledged the achievement, and admitted he’s proud to have almost reached the landmark in the short time he has.

“It’ll be a nice little milestone,” declared Daniels.

“It’s not something I really put too much onus on, but it’s come around quite quickly, so it’ll be good.”
