BIG MATCH PREVIEW: IRON v AFC WIMBLEDON

28 February 2017

After two solid recent showings away from home, the Iron are back on home soil on Tuesday evening, as they welcome AFC Wimbledon to Glanford Park.

Graham Alexander’s men came from behind to earn a point in their clash with Bristol Rovers at the weekend, and they’ll be looking to build on that against the Dons.

Tuesday’s opponents come into the match on the back of a victory though, with Lyle Taylor scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win over Walsall.

Alexander revealed defender David Mirfin will be assessed ahead of the match, after the 31-year-old’s half time withdrawal at Bristol Rovers due to illness.

Mirfin has trained prior to Tuesday night’s fixture, but Alexander says he’ll wait and analyse the situation.

Tom Hopper and Josh Morris both scored before the interval, as United ran out 2-1 winners at the Cherry Red Records Stadium back in August.

Hopper set the ball rolling on 23 minutes, glancing in Conor Townsend’s perfectly flighted cross from the left flank.

The striker was instrumental again minutes prior to the break, with Darius Charles clipping Hopper’s heals inside the penalty area. Morris then stepped up and cooly dispatched the spot-kick to double the Iron’s advantage.
