The aims of the development centre sessions are to provide players with structured coaching sessions, enhance their football skills and to also help us identify and produce players to represent Scunthorpe United Academy.
The sessions will run during the school term time and parents are allowed to stay and watch. There will be no coaching sessions during school holidays. Any players that show outstanding individual talent will be invited to train/trial with our current Academy squads.
There is no official assessment of players at any of our Development Centres. All of our Academy coaches have Enhanced CRB disclosures, have a child protection/safeguarding children certificate, are emergency aid trained and are Football Association qualified coaches.
What skills will we develop each week?
Week 1 Passing and receiving
Week 2 Turning and dribbling
Week 3 Running with the ball
Week 4 Shooting/finishing skills
Week 5 Attacking skills 1v0, 1v1, 2v1, 2v2
Week 6 Defending skills 1v1, 1v2, 2v2
- Technical skills – control, passing, turning, dribbling, shooting, 1v1 skills
- Physical skills – (ABC’s) agility, balance, co-ordination, flexibility, speed
- Social skills – communication & interaction with coach/peers, team work skills, HAVE FUN!
- Psychological skills - self-confidence, build self-esteem, concentration, decision making,
- Each player will receive an attendance certificate at the end of the course
To book a place, parents must download and complete an application form, and email back to matt.chatfield@scunthorpe-united.co.uk before the course starts.
Alternatively, print the form, complete it and bring to the first session. Please text Matt with your child's name, age group and centre that he/she is going to attend.
