IT'S A MARKER WE'VE LAID DOWN TO OURSELVES

3 October 2016

United defender David Mirfin insists he and his teammates must now build on an impressive result and performance against Bury.

The Iron took all three points in a 2-1 victory at Gigg Lane, and for Mirfin, it’s all about kicking on and cementing that spot at the top of the League One table.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Mirfin said: “We’re obviously delighted with the performance and the three points.

“I think it’s a marker we’ve laid down now, not necessarily to the other teams in the league, but to ourselves.

“We’ve got a certain level now that we’ve got to achieve every week, and we’ve now got to make sure we match it in the next game.”

Graham Alexander made two changes from Tuesday night’s win away at Walsall, with Scott Wiseman and Stephen Dawson coming into the side.

Mirfin says it was pleasing to see that it didn’t have any impact on the team’s display, something he feels bodes well for the rest of the reason.

“To back Tuesday night’s win with today is a really positive sign. The gaffer has again made changes, and it’s almost like for like in quality - to know we’ve that depth in squad is a massive plus,” he stated.

“Scot (Wiseman) coming back in is a perfect example, and Stephen Dawson too, driving us forward and making chances.

“That’s we need, that’s what the gaffer needs. He needs players chomping at the bit, wanting to get in the team. We know if we step off our level that other players are going to get that chance.”

Josh Morris once again stole the show with a superb strike to win his side the points, and Mirfin admitted it’s becoming hard to find the words to describe the winger.

(On Josh Morris) “What can you say, again it’s something out of nothing,” he explained.

“He deserves it for the amount of work he puts in. It’s a bit of a cliche, but you get out what you put in, and he’s certainly getting that at the moment.

“It’s what you need in a team if you’re going to be successful. We’ve got the players who are willing to do the dirty, ugly stuff, and it’s backed up by the players who can pop up and produce something out of nothing.
