ALEXANDER: IT'S ABOUT WHAT WE DO

21 October 2016

Manager Graham Alexander says he’ll be looking for a response from his players when they travel to Chesterfield on Saturday.

United’s midweek defeat to Oldham Athletic was only his side’s second in the league so far, and Alexander is hoping for an improved display this time round.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Alexander said: “It’s about what we do. If we perform and we produce a performance that we expect to, we know we’ll play well and win games.

“There’s always a team opposite you who’s trying to stop you doing the things you do well - that’s the beauty of English football.

“It’s not just a case of us walking out there and producing what we can produce, we have to overcome the opposition, and then have the confidence to do what we can on and off the ball. Which is what we have to do on Saturday.”

The Iron boss admits he was disappointed with the result against the Latics, but was keen to look at the bigger picture.

“There are times during a game you have to react, there are times during a season you have to react and it’s never all plain sailing,” he stated.

“It’s so competitive and, you’re not going to win every game, but there are certain things we need to do every game and we just felt we were a little bit off it.

“Watching the game back, there’s not that much wrong, but there are things we could do a lot better. We have to make sure we focus on those, and all the positive stuff we’ve been doing as well.”

Alexander revealed Luke Daniels will be monitored after missing Tuesday’s match due to a knock he sustained against MK Dons, while also providing an update on the fitness of those who too are sidelined.

“Harry’s (Toffolo) not trained yet and Luke’s (Daniels) been doing a light session away from the group with Paul Musselwhite,” he revealed.

“We’ll assess him, because him being on the grass doesn’t mean he’s out of the woods, so we just need to make sure he’s fully recovered.

“Harry is going to be another couple of weeks I feel. Luke Williams has trained again, which is good, and we’re still waiting on Jordan Clarke.”
