WE MOVE ON WHETHER WE WIN OR LOSE

7 November 2016

Tom Hopper says things just didn’t go for the Iron in their Emirates FA Cup encounter with Charlton Athletic at the Valley.

The visitors created numerous chances throughout the match, which they lost 3-1 in the end.

In Hopper’s eyes it was just one of those days you get from time to time.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Hopper said: “It’s disappointing to lose.

“I thought we started really well in that first half an hour and then we had ten minutes where we dropped off and conceded the two goals.

“We had chances throughout the game, but we didn’t take them. Towards the end we were pushing on and we conceded another.

“The only thing more we could have done is put the ball in the back of the net. We came out in the second half and had a right good go.

“We said at half time, come away from here having given everything we have. I think we can say we did that, unfortunately we just came up short.”

Hopper insists though the squad will put the result behind them quickly, and focus on the Checkatrade Trophy clash with Cambridge United on Tuesday night.

“We’re very good as a group, we move on whether we win or lose. If it’s a win we don’t get too excited about it, and if we lose we’ll take our points to learn from it,” he stated.

“No one likes to lose, but some of the football we played was quite good. We created so many chances, but we’ll take things to learn from it and hopefully get back to winning ways on Tuesday.”

Going forward there was good news for Scunthorpe, as Luke Williams was back in the first team fold after sustaining an ankle injury in August’s victory over AFC Wimbledon.

Hopper was delighted to see first and foremost a quality player return to action, but also a good friend at the same time.

“Everyone knows what Luke’s (Williams) got,” Hopper explained.

“It’s not nice to see your mate injured, so to see him back out there showing glimpses of what he can do is great. He’ll only get better and better now with the more game time he gets.”
