GREAT TO BE ABLE TO GRIND RESULTS OUT

21 November 2016

Reflecting on the home victory over Oldham Athletic, United goalkeeper Luke Daniels felt he and his team-mates showed great character to take all three points.

Scunthorpe were made to work hard for their 1-0 win at Glanford Park, and Daniels says ultimately it’s just about getting over the line.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Daniels said: “Like last week (against Coventry), it’s nice to win when you don’t play well. It’s a good trait to have.

“We know we’ve got to be better going forward, but it was nice to pick up the three points today.

“Teams aren’t going to lie down and let you stroll in, with you being top of the league, and take three points off them.

“It doesn’t matter come the end of the season how you win, it’s just a case of making sure that you do win.”

The 28-year-old believes it would have been harsh on the Iron if they hadn’t taken all three points though, considering the strong second half display which was produced.

“In the second half I thought we played well, like we did against Coventry. However, we can’t wait for it to happen, we’ve got to go out there and impose ourselves on games,” he stated.

“If you look at the players we’ve got and how freely we’ve scored so far this season, there’s always a confidence. In saying that, you’re never 100% sure that you’re going to score.

“Especially with their ‘keeper making one or two really good saves. You expect that we are going to score, but it’s nice when it does finally go in.”

Going forward, Daniels states there are certain aspects which need to be improved but, on the whole, he feels the signs are good.

“It gives us confidence, because we’ve got another win, and we’re keeping the run going. It’s also another game unbeaten at home,” Daniels explained.

“We know there are things to work on, we’re under no illusions that we weren’t brilliant in the first half.

“However, it does give us confidence knowing that we can go and grind results out, even when things aren’t necessarily going our way.”
