WOOTTON LOOKING FORWARD TO HULL GAME

22 July 2016

Ahead of United’s friendly clash with Hull City on Saturday, forward Kyle Wootton says even though it’s a non-competitive fixture, it’s one everyone will be wanting to win.

Wootton believes his side will put in a positive display against the recent Championship play-off winners, in front of what he hopes will be a decent crowd at Glanford Park.

Wootton told The Iron PlayerHD: “It’s a big game, a local derby. It may only be pre-season, but the lads definitely want to win, and show the fans what we’re made of ahead of the upcoming season.

“Hopefully they play a strong side, and if they do that’ll be good for us, as well as the fans too. Like I said, it may only be pre-season, but we’re going to give them a good go."

After facing City, Wootton and his Iron team-mates welcome Rotherham United to Glanford Park, and the striker feels a Saturday/Tuesday schedule in pre-season will serve the team well as the upcoming season progresses.

“It’ll be a good test, but we need it to be honest, because there’s going to be a lot of Saturday/Tuesday fixtures throughout the season,” he said.

“It’ll just be good to get back into it, and will also be a good workout for the squad as a whole too."

From a personal point of view, the 19-year-old is hoping for more starts and more goals in the 2016-17 season, and he says he’ll be doing everything he can to make it happen.

“Hopefully I can get a lot more starts and bring more goals to the team as well,” he stated.

“I believe if I started more I could bring goals to the team but, who knows, I’ll just have to keep working hard and see where it takes me."
