OUR OPPONENTS: FC LIEFERING

15 July 2016

The Iron take on FC Liefering this evening on their final full day of the week-long pre-season tour in Austria.

The side, who were founded 69 years ago in 1947 as USK Anif, were re-established just four years ago under their current name. The side are a farm team for Austrian Football Bundesliga side FC Red Bull Salzburg and play in the second tier of Austrian football.

FC Liefering finished fourth in the division in 2015-16 after finishing second and third in the two seasons preceding it. The division is made up of ten teams, with four fixtures against each other over the course of the season split into two halves to encorporate a winter break.

The Iron's game against Liefering is their fourth club friendly after facing TSV St Johann (L 0-1), 1860 Munchen II (W 2-1) and Ajax (W 4-3). That comes following just four weeks' break from league action. FC Liefering begin their league campaign in a week's time (Friday, July 22) against Horn.

They come into the game on the back of a last minute victory over Ajax a week ago to win 4-3. The Austrian side were 2-0 and 3-2 up before eventually claiming the match with just moments remaining against the Dutch Champions.

We will have full coverage of the game in Austria on our social media channels, along with a report and reaction on The Iron PlayerHD.
