LUER JOINS IRON ON LOAN

9 February 2016

The Iron have completed the loan signing of forward Greg Luer, from Hull City for an initial one-month period.

The 21-year-old arrived at our local rivals via the non-league route, playing for Hove Rivervale, Whitehawk and Eastbourne Borough before he was scouted at Isthmian League side Burgess Hill Town. It’s reported that while with the latter, he notched 12 goals in 21 appearances.

The Brighton-born striker was signed by the then Premier League side in January 2015 before being loaned out to Port Vale a month later. He made just two substitute appearances for the Valiants.

So far this season, Luer has made six appearances for Hull, scoring two goals – both of which came in the Capital One Cup against Accrington Stanley and Rochdale respectively.

The latter goal turned out to be the winner, while his goal against Stanley coupled with his penalty shoot-out strike aided the Tigers into the next round. He would then play 74 minutes of the third round victory over Leicester City, which again went all the way to penalties.

Luer joins up with the Iron ahead of Saturday's home game with Southend United, with the initial loan spell expiring after United’s game against Doncaster Rovers on March 8. He has been handed the No 14 shirt.
