FULL OF CONFIDENCE

15 February 2016

Iron striker Paddy Madden was understandably delighted to help his side to a 1-0 success over Southend United on Saturday.

The victory meant United have now won their last three games since Nick Daws and Andy Dawson took over in their caretaker roles.

It was Madden’s 11th minute header that won us the match, and he told Scunthorpe-United.co.uk confidence was high in the camp at the moment.

“We’re very happy,” he said.

“There’s obviously a lot of confidence at the minute, and that’s three very good wins on the bounce. We’ll look to go to Millwall full of confidence, get another win, and keep climbing that table.

“It was a great team performance and we ran all over them to be fair. It was a good, passionate performance and they are the kind of performances you need from the team.”

Paddy Madden scored an 11th minute winner for the Iron against Southend on Saturday.

Having matched last season’s goal tally of 17, Madden is now looking to kick on and reach his pre-season target.

“Fingers crossed I can reach my target of 20 goals," he said.

"That was my target at the start of the season, and I really want to get to 20 – which I know I will. Once I get there, I’ll look to get more.

“I thought my performance was good. I didn’t get a lot of chances in the box but when the one came in the first half I took it."

Not only did United get all three points, but they also secured a second clean sheet from their last three games, and have only conceded once in all three – something Madden believes is increasing the side's belief.

“Phil Brown’s teams are very hard to break down and are well organised, so we will take the 1-0," he said.

“You need clean sheets, as they win you games too. The lads are confident at the back now and Conor (Townsend) has come in and settled into that left back role well.

“You saw the kind of desire with those two blocks at the end, and that is the kind of passion we need to keep climbing the table.”
