Extra funds provided by the players saw a number of items bought specifically for the ward, to be enjoyed by all the children who unfortunately have to spend time there at any point during a calendar year.
The presents included electric cars, a swinging baby chair, two easels, fancy dress costumes, a football table and blankets for fostered children leaving hospital.
It was a delight to see much of the ward unoccupied - particularly with the festive period fast approaching.
For those who were inpatients on the ward and in the children's outpatient section, it provided smiles all-round.
Iron captain Stephen Dawson, who has played an integral part in the funding and planning of the presents, said: "It's very important football clubs do this at this. I'm a father myself and to have sick children must be tough. It's the least we can do as a group of players, we've clubbed together and got some things for the children and also the ward. It was great to see the smiles on their faces.”
“The Trust have been brilliant. It's only a small gesture but we really wanted to make a big effort this year and hopefully we've put a smile on the children’s faces. I've got two girls, I was brought up in a big family environment and I'm sure a lot of fans can relate to that as well.”
"It puts things into perspective and, speaking to the parents and children on the ward, they're all hoping to be home by Christmas which is great news. I hope they all have a lovely Christmas."
We will have a video from the day online in the run-up to Christmas. Click here to see a full photo gallery.
