United winger Hakeeb Adelakun was delighted to see the Iron bounce back from last week’s defeat in Rochdale, to beat Millwall 3-0 at Glanford Park on Saturday.Paddy Madden headed home from Josh Morris’ free kick after 36 minutes, before Adelakun himself added a second on the stroke of half time.
Madden doubled his tally and took the Iron into a commanding three goal lead 20 minutes from the end, to kill any remaining Lions hopes.
“It was a great reaction from last week’s disappointment,” Adelakun told The Iron PlayerHD.
“The only thing we could do to make it right was to get a good win, and we did that.
“The whole team did well, we were on the front foot, and our play showed with the end result.”
“The result is massive for us. We knew the mistakes we made, and we put them right from the start really," he added.
“Going into Christmas top of the league is brilliant for us also. Our first goal eased things off for us, and we then built into the game more and more after that opener.
“They’re a strong team. It was good that we could take control of the match, and do what we needed to do.”
The youngster's goal was his third of the season, but only his first in the league, with the two previous goals coming in the EFL Trophy.
Adelakun spoke of his delight of getting the opportunity to start, and how he aims to build on Saturday’s performance moving forward.
“It’s always a pleasure to score a goal - I was buzzing with it. Scoring always feels better and better each time," he said.
“It was good to get a start today, and hopefully now I can stay in the team.”
United travel to Bradford City on Boxing Day as they look to remain at the summit of League One, and the 20-year-old believes the team are already more than ready for it.
“Hopefully we can build on this performance and keep on going, because Bradford are a good side," he stated.
“We need to be at it, which the lads know. We’re ready for it."
