YOUTHS MAKE STAGS COMEBACK

13 September 2015

United's U18 side drew 1-1 at home to their Mansfield Town counterparts on Saturday.

The Iron’s youngsters opened the game well and had an opportunity to score after only two minutes when Leslie Sackey’s cross was nodded wide at the far post by Jack Dyche.

Mansfield were unfortunate after 16 minutes when they rattled the Scunthorpe upright.

Noel Burdett gained possession and drove forward but was upended on the edge of the visiting penalty area. However, his resulting free-kick sailed over the bar.

On the stroke of half time the Stags took the lead.

A poor back pass from a United defender went out of play and Town headed home at the far post from the resulting corner.

In the second half, United were on the front foot and really took the game to their opponents and deservedly levelled on 76 minutes.

A good clearance from keeper Ben Ledger found Dyche in space and he ran on to put his shot past the Town keeper.

With only two minutes remaining United had a chance when George Barmby went through but his effort rebounded back off the keepers legs.
