OLIVER'S GOALKEEPING BOOST

19 October 2015

Oliver Hammond enjoyed his “best day ever” after meeting two of his heroes ahead of Scunthorpe’s 2-1 win over Shrewsbury Town.

After hearing about Oliver’s goalkeeping promise – and his recent haphazard defence – the two Iron shot-stoppers were keen to meet him and encourage him to continue in the position he loves.

Oliver, aged six, currently plays for Broughton Ravers' U7s team and, after many visits to Glanford Park with his Dad, Nan and Grandad, he decided to be a goalkeeper and has been awarded man of the match awards on many occasions at his club.

The Iron sent a short, personal video of encouragement from Luke Daniels and Joe Anyon ahead of a game against Winterton before inviting him to the Shrewsbury game to meet the two goalkeepers.

He enjoyed a tour of the stadium before meeting the duo – and took home a memento of his day; a signed picture of both Anyon and Daniels with personalised messages.

Tweeting after the game, @Traves86 (his auntie Lyndsey Traves) said: “Thank you @SUFCOfficial for helping out my nephew, he has had the best day ever. You have gone above and beyond.”
