LOOKING STRONG

28 July 2015

Iron defender Charlie Goode says he and his team mates are looking good ahead of the new League One campaign.

The former Hendon man played an integral part in United's 5-2 victory over Lincoln United on Saturday afternoon. A result which sees the Iron progress to the Semi-Finals of the Lincolnshire Senior Cup, where they will face Lincoln City.

"We looked good and we looked strong against Bolton too," he told The Iron PlayerHD.

It was a much changed Iron eleven from the one that started in the 1-1 draw with Bolton Wanderers on Friday, with a number of youth team players featuring at Ashby Avenue.

"It's disappointing to concede the two goals, but we got a win," he explained.

He did though admit that it's not necessarily the result which is the most important factor in pre-season.

"The main thing at this stage is getting 90 minutes and getting yourself fit," he said.

On a personal level, Goode spoke of his chances of being involved in the upcoming campaign.

"It's difficult for me as I've come from the non-league," he stated.

"But if i can be in and around the squad and keep working hard I'll see where it takes me."

The Iron defender also spoke of how being defensively solid will impact on United's chances this season.

"The aim is to keep a lot of clean sheets and if we can that we'll be right up there," he explained.
