DUST OURSELVES DOWN AND GET ON WITH IT

19 August 2015

United boss Mark Robins stated his team were well-beaten in a 3-0 reverse at the DW Stadium on Wednesday.

Goals from Will Grigg (penalty), Donervan Daniels and Craig Davies condemned Scunthorpe to their second league defeat of the season, with the manager disappointed in what his side had to offer.

“We found it difficult to cope with them,” he told The Iron PlayerHD.

“Wigan certainly hit some form all over the pitch and we’ve not created enough ourselves. So it has been a really disappointing night. It’s an old cliché, but we have got to dust ourselves down and get on with it and prepare well for the game on Saturday.

“It’s disappointing when you have to say it, but they were better than us in all departments. We found it difficult to build any momentum (after the early penalty), so we were on the back-foot.

“We made changes to the shape and then obviously the personnel at half time – one through injury. They were two changes that benefitted us in the second half and it gave us a little bit more of a chance, but we didn’t manage to create anything clear-cut.

“It’s difficult to come and speak when it has been a performance as it has. We were so far off them and that was the disappointment. There are reasons for it and we have to be better when we are playing teams like that.

“Too many times we didn’t make or take the right options and they were on the front-foot and they pressed us really well.

“It was a disappointing night all round.”

Meanwhile, the manager gave an early indication to the injury of midfielder Jamie Ness, who was replaced at half time on his Iron debut.

“Jamie took a whack on his hip in the first half,” he stated.

“Subsequently, he had a pain in his hip and needed to be replaced.”
