IRON 11/8 TO SEE OFF CHESTERFIELD

1 September 2014

Scunthorpe go into their Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie against Chesterfield as favourites.

The Iron are 11/8 to come out on top in 90minutes after defeating Walsall and coming close to an upset against Reading last week.

Chesterfield, on the other hand, are 17/10 to win at Glanford Park on Tuesday evening. Football League partners Sky Bet are offering odds of 23/10 for the game to finish a tie.

If the fixture does end in stalemate the result will be decided by penalties, with competition rules stating there will be no extra time or replays prior to the final.

The Spireites have enjoyed a good start to their League One campaign, finding themselves in the playoff positions after beating Port Vale 2-1 on Saturday. They also came close to a League Cup upset against Championship side Huddersfield, only to lose out in extra time.

The claret and blue remain outsiders to win the Football League Trophy at 33/1, with Sheffield United and Bristol City joint-favourites at 10/1. Preston shortly follow at 11/1, while the bookmakers have Peterborough and Doncaster down at 14/1.

Scunthorpe are joint-thirteenth favourites with the likes of Crawley, Bradford, Fleetwood, and Saturday’s opponents Walsall. Bookmakers have deemed Chesterfield more likely to win the competition at 25/1.
