PREVIEW: NORTHAMPTON TOWN (H)

7 March 2014

Saturday’s game at Glanford Park sees second-placed Scunthorpe take on second-from-bottom Northampton Town in League Two.

The Cobblers are four points short of safety under new manager Chris Wilder although they are unbeaten in their last three.

United last met Northampton at Sixfields in September this season and were held to a 1-1 draw.

There have been 58 meetings between the sides in total, and the Iron just shade the head-to-head record with 22 wins to the Cobblers’ 21, while the other 15 finished level.

Deon Burton (calf) continues to remain out, although there are no other fresh injury concerns for the Iron.

Last line-up: Slocombe, Ribeiro, Mirfin, Canavan, Williams, Nolan, McAllister, Syers, Hawkridge, Madden, Winnall.

The Cobblers will check on Joe Widdowson once again after the defender’s ankle injury sustained at Hartlepool.

Captain Lee Collins (foot) remains out for the rest of the season while Alex Nicholls, Lewis Hornby and Kelvin Langmead are sidelined for the long-term.

Danny Emerton has also left Sixfields Stadium.

Last line-up: Duke, McSweeney, Diamond, Kouo-Doumbe, Robertson, Hackett, Ravenhill, Carter, Dickenson, Connell, Sinclair.

Cobblers manager Chris Wilder told Northampton Town’s official website (ntfc.co.uk): “Scunthorpe are an excellent side and they are deservedly at the top of the league,” he said,

“We know that we will need to be at our best but we’re a confident group and the key thing is that we are in good form.”
