LEAGUE TWO REVIEW: WEEK 31

17 March 2014

Saturday’s 2-0 win at Plymouth Argyle kept the Iron in second place in League Two and extended the unbeaten run to 21 matches.

Elsewhere, there were important victories for most of United’s promotion rivals at the weekend.

Chesterfield remain top after beating Oxford United 3-0. Ollie Banks gave the Spireites the lead before Gary Roberts’ penalty doubled their advantage. Oxford had both Tom Newey and Michael Raines sent off in the final ten minutes, and Roberts sealed Chesterfield’s victory in injury-time.

Rochdale beat Accrington Stanley 2-1 at Spotland. Piero Mingoia looked to have set Stanley on their way to a win in the second half, but two Matty Lund goals turned the game around for Dale late on.

Hartlepool United were 4-0 winners at home to Bristol Rovers thanks to goals from Marlon Harewood, Bradley Walker, a Simon Walton penalty and Jon Franks' late’finish.

York City grabbed a 2-0 win at home to Wycombe Wanders with a Ryan Bowman penalty and a Josh Carson strike. Wycombe also had Sam Togwell sent off late on.

Goals from Jon Parkin, Antoni Sarcevic and Jamille Matt gave Fleetwood Town a 3-1 victory against Portsmouth at Highbury, with Jed Wallace pulling one back for Pompey.

A Matt Richards goal gave Cheltenham Town a 1-0 win at home to Torquay United.

And there were draws for Burton (1-1 at home to AFC Wimbledon), Dagenham & Redbridge (1-1 at home to Morecambe), Northampton (1-1 at home to Mansfield), Southend (0-0 at home to Bury) and Newport (1-1 at home to Exeter) in the latest round of Sky Bet League 2 fixtures.
