IRON WILL HOLD DAWSON DISCUSSIONS

9 June 2014

Iron manager Russ Wilcox says Andy Dawson is under consideration as he looks to appoint an assistant manager.

The player/coach enjoyed promotion in his first season back at Glanford Park and, out-of-contract, he will hold talks with the club about his future this week.

Wilcox told BBC Radio Humberside: "He has to be a candidate.

"For me, he's had a terrific first season. It's difficult because I've been in Andy's shoes. I know what it's like trying to combine playing and coaching.

"He's well liked in the group and I have to sit down with Andy and see where he wants to go.

"With regards the playing side, he's only 35 and he's still very fit.

"It's Andy's decision if he wants to carry on playing. There is an offer there for him to carry on coaching and playing and we'll sit down and have a word with him about it.

"He's just finished his UEFA A Licence coaching course, so we'll have a good chat and see where it goes from there.

"He's enjoyed his first season. It's been terrific when you look back and he's played a key role on and off the pitch."
