Iron boss Russ Wilcox has confirmed discussions have taken place with defender Miguel Llera.
The centre-back was on trial with the club for last weekend's home friendly with Huddersfield Town and impressed.Speaking after the away pre-season win at Frickley, Wilcox confirmed further discussions have been held.
He explained: "Discussions have taken place and anybody who saw him play against Huddersfield on Saturday would have been impressed.
"There might be interest from Championship clubs but we're certainly in the race."
Meanwhile, Wilcox was delighted to see the Iron emerge from Frickley with a 1-0 win.
He stated: "It's difficult mentally to come to places like Frickley but it's a good test because you're testing yourself physically and mentally.
"It was their cup final and sometimes if you approach it in the wrong manner you can get turned over.
"In pre-season the result is not that important, but it was pleasing to win."
