BLADES GAME POSTPONED

28 December 2014

Sunday's Sky Bet League One fixture between Sheffield United and Scunthorpe United has been postponed, following a 10am inspection.

Referee Mark Heywood, with advice from safety officials and police, called the game off on health and safety grounds. Particularly, Cherry Street, Shoreham Street and John Street are precarious, with compacted ice under the snow a major issue.

Mr Heywood commented: "The pitch, by 3pm, would be playable so player safety was not a concern. But the surrounding areas, including approaches to the Kop stand, were simply treacherous for supporters and even with the man power to try and clear it, it would have still been dangerous by the time the turnstiles opened.

"Common sense has to prevail and it simply isn't safe."

A new date for the fixture has yet to be confirmed but tickets already purchased will be valid when the game is re-arranged, although supporters unable to make the new date can claim a refund by visiting the Iron's ticket office. Click here for Christmas opening times.

As soon as we have a date for the rearranged fixture, we'll announce on Scunthorpe-United.co.uk and through our social media channels.
