WRIGHT HANDED READING CLASH

26 August 2014

Kevin Wright has been the handed job as head official for the Capital One Cup second round tie between the Iron and Reading at Glanford Park.

This will be Wright’s third game of the season after refereeing in League One and Two already this season. In those two games, Wright dished out five yellow cards and no red cards.

Wright did officiated the Iron last season in League Two, when United faced Northampton Town at Glanford Park in a 1-1 draw. Niall Canavan put Scunthorpe ahead before Zander Diamond levelled just ten minutes later.

The official gave out three yellow cards and one red during the game, the red going Northampton’s Ricky Ravenhill after two bookable offences. The other two cautions going to Canavan and McAllister for the Iron.

Over the course of last season, Wright refereed 23 games from the Championship down to League Two and gave out 63 yellow cards across those games. The official also showed six red cards during the season, with all six of the red cards being shown within eight games towards the end of the season.

The official refereed the Iron a few times whilst they were in the Championship, including the 2-0 defeat against Middlesbrough at Glanford Park in 2010, where he showed seven yellow cards. He was also in charge of the defeat to West Brom in 2009/10 season, where he sent off Cliff Byrne late on in a 2-0 victory for West Brom.

Wright will be assisted by Alf Greenwood and Ross Joyce, meanwhile Duncan Street will be the Fourth Official for the fixture.
